Madagascar packing list: what to bring for the adventure
Madagascar takes you from cool highlands to hot coasts and humid rainforest, sometimes in the same week. Pack light and flexible. Here is our tried-and-tested list.
Clothing and footwear
Lightweight, quick-dry layers work best, with a fleece or warm layer for cool highland evenings and a packable rain jacket for the rainforest. Sturdy walking shoes or light hiking boots are essential for parks like the Tsingy. Add sandals for the coast, a sun hat and a swimsuit.
Health and protection
Bring insect repellent, high-factor sunscreen, any personal medication, and a small first-aid kit with rehydration salts. A reusable water bottle with a filter saves plastic on the road. Check malaria and vaccination advice with a travel clinic before you travel, see our safety guide.
The useful extras
A head torch is invaluable for night walks and occasional power cuts. Binoculars transform wildlife watching. Bring a power bank, a universal adapter, and some small cash in ariary for markets and tips. A dry bag protects cameras on boat trips and in the rain.
Once your route is set we send a tailored packing note for your specific trip and season. Plan your trip.
